調(diào)音臺(tái)的主要作用是將多路輸入信號(hào)進(jìn)行信號(hào)放大、路由分配、音效修飾后進(jìn)行編組輸出，是音響工程中的核心設(shè)備。調(diào)音臺(tái)按信號(hào)輸出方式可分為數(shù)字調(diào)音臺(tái)及模擬調(diào)音臺(tái)，輸入通道數(shù)量的多少又可以分成6、8、12、16、24······等多種，每個(gè)輸入通道性能、結(jié)構(gòu)可以各不相同，每個(gè)輸入通道可接受一路電平信號(hào)輸入，如果是立體聲信號(hào)則需要兩個(gè)通道。

數(shù)字調(diào)音臺(tái)內(nèi)的音頻信號(hào)是數(shù)字信號(hào)，是全自動(dòng)化處理，總諧波失真和等效輸入噪聲都很低。常被用于要求高的音響系統(tǒng)。模擬調(diào)音臺(tái)都是采用傳統(tǒng)的模擬方式進(jìn)行信號(hào)處理，技術(shù)成熟，成本低，但是模擬調(diào)音臺(tái)性能穩(wěn)定，不易受外界因素影響。

數(shù)字調(diào)音臺(tái)跟模擬調(diào)音臺(tái)都有各自的特點(diǎn)，如果是大型綜合性的擴(kuò)聲場(chǎng)所，使用數(shù)字調(diào)音臺(tái)，因?yàn)閿?shù)字調(diào)音臺(tái)有豐富的接口及音頻處理功能，可以滿(mǎn)足不同場(chǎng)景及特定功能需求。如果是小型固定會(huì)議場(chǎng)所，建議使用模擬調(diào)音臺(tái)，成本低，系統(tǒng)穩(wěn)定，操作簡(jiǎn)單，適用于非操作人士的操作。
